Students and Parents,

First of all, let me be one of the first people to tell you how excited I am that you are here at Landrum!  You have a caring and supportive team of teachers, administrators, coaches, counselors, and instructors ready to help you succeed this year.  As your teacher, I will do everything I can to make sure you are learning in a safe and comfortable classroom each day.

Language arts is the study of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  So, what can you expect to learn in language arts this year?  Over the course of 180 days, you will encounter various content that includes, but is not limited to: parts of speech, punctuation, poetry, novels, the writing process, and note-taking skills.  Some of these will be taught through journal writing, reading literature, grammar practice, spelling and vocabulary lessons, group discussions and projects, and a variety of methods of instruction.

All sixth grade students are expected to read 100 pages per week.  Your reading log is to be turned in every week with a parent or guardian signature and will count as a homework grade.  Reading logs without signatures will not be accepted.  My homework policy is 100% credit the day the assignment is due, 50% credit the day after, and no credit after the second day.  Students who were absent will have the number of days they were gone to turn in make-up work.

Students at Landrum are expected to uphold the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.  Under this banner of behavioral expectations, ONLY WORK COMPLETED BY THE STUDENT WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR A GRADE.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Attempting to turn in another person’s work as your own is PLAGIARISM and is a serious academic offense.

The best way to stay organized and on top of all upcoming assignments is to USE YOUR PLANNER!  It is one of your most valuable resources.  Homework should be written down for each class, every day.
