HAPPY PI DAY!!  First Period celebrated with homemade apple and coconut cream pie :)!  Of course - we measured the pies and found their circumferences by stretching a string around their crusts.  The length of the string was the circumference.  Then we measured the distance ACROSS the pies (their diameters).  When we divided the circumferences by the diameters - guess what we got both times?  .....  PI!!  Then we ate pie.

Jerry's really proud of Chris's dedication and focus in math class.  He says it's why Chris always performs so well on his tests!

THANK YOU to all of the students and families from our Homeroom who have generously donated to the Pennies for Patients charity!  Keep bringing in your coins - Change for a Change!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I'm so glad school has started again, aren't you!?  :)

If you need some help thinking of New Year's resolutions for 2012, here are a few suggestions:

Come prepared for class each day with (preferably) mechanical pencils, your 3-subject math notebook, your planner and a hand-held pencil-sharpener!
Take great notes in class.  This means writing down the examples we practice EVEN if you're sure you know exactly how to do them.
Resolve to use your planner.  Write down your daily assignments and the upcoming events your teachers mention and remind you about.  Before you go to bed at night, take a quick look back inside your planner and make check marks next to the assignments you've completed.  Make sure those assignments are safely tucked into your backpack before you go to bed!  A prepared student is a confident one.

I really missed you all over the break...now let's focus this week and over the weekend as we prepare for the upcoming exams!  Welcome back!

Happy Holidays!!

Want to know what you can do over the break to keep up with math & be ready for semester exams (January 9th and 10th)?

Please read this letter:

Parent Letter - First Semester Exams2011.doc

Then, print these AWESOME flash cards that will help you make an A on your semester exam when you come back to school after the holidays!

Flash Cards - Semester One Exam Corrected 2011.docx

Keep track of how many times your family members and friends help you review your flash cards using your study log:

Updated December 5th:

All students will now need a 3-subject, spiral-bound notebook for math class (no binder is necessary).  Class notes and example problems will be recorded each day in their notebooks (in chronological order!).

First semester exams are coming up on January 9th and 10th.  Much more info will be coming shortly - stay tuned!  There will opportunities to review & keep the material fresh during the holiday break!

Extra credit presentations will be shown in class the last two days before the break.

Updated November 29th:

All classes have a quiz/test on Thursday!  Online practice quizzes are available on the homework section of this website.  An extra credit project was recently announced in class - here is the info:  Extra Credit Project.docx
Extra credit project applications are due this Friday, December 2nd.  Students will present their projects during the week before the winter break.

Updated November 14th:

Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend!  I just wanted to remind you all that tutoring is available before school any morning after 7am in my room.  Please come prepared with homework problems that gave you trouble or a particular type of problem you need more practice with before a quiz or a test.  A few students have taken (regular) advantage of this offer, and we've seen great results!

Check out our class's MATH NEWSLETTER!  Added Oct. 6th ~

Newsletter Fall 2011.pdf

Updated October 2nd:

Our First Quarter Newsletter will be emailed to parents and posted to this website on Tuesday, Oct. 4th!  Stay tuned for the latest info from math class!

The First Quarter Math Exam will be on October 18th!

We will be preparing for the exam in class, but there are ways to prepare at home as well.  An online practice exam is available here:

Standard Math, Periods 1, 4 and 6:

Advanced Math, Periods 2, 3 and 5:

It's a good idea to begin the practice exam early, completing several problems each night in addition to your other homework.  If there are problems you need help with, please ask in class!  The key to making the grade you want on the exam is preparing yourself.
