has been cancelled 1:32 pm due to weather

LMS GOLF 2013
PLAYOFFS ARE SET  FOR 2013
THIS INFO WAS JUST SENT TO ME FROM SJMSAA :
We have the playoffs just about finalized and by the time everyone finishes this last week of the season we will post the final results on the web site. Wanted to get this out to everyone and am sorry for it coming out so late but we have a wonderful playoff system that will extend our season our one more week and will allow all teams a chance to compete to become champions of this 2013 Spring Season.

Each match will be at a different location and will make sure that the team that plays there has not played the course more than once over the course of the season. The locations for the first round will be Slammer, St. Johns Golf and CC and Palencia starting at 4pm on Tuesday May 28th.

The second round will be at the King and Bear and a not yet determined location but the fall back will be South Hampton. They will also be at 4pm and will be held on Wednesday May 29th

Finals will be played at Marsh Creek CC on Thursday May 30th at 4pm- any and all players (both LMS 1 & 2) are welcomed and encouraged to attend if they are not scheduled to play

Seeding will be based on the final record of the teams during regular season with tie breaks going to the team that won the head to head competition.

The format will be the same as the regular season.

Please pass this along to the parents so they can start planning accordingly. Thank you again for all your assistance with making this season so successful.

At this point golf is in a "holding pattern". If you know you want to "pay to play" regardless of what team (LMS #1 or LMS #2) a player might be asked to play on or may not be asked to play on, then go ahead and register on-line if you haven't already done so. Print out the documents, sign them and hand them in to me. I'm almost certain the check should be made out to SJMSAA Golf. As far as dates, times, locations etc... for practice & clinics and even upcoming matches I don't have all the answers at this point. The association is continuing to work on getting things finalized.

March 12, 2013
ALL PLAYERS WHO TRIED OUT SHOULD READ BELOW FOR UPDATED DETAILS ON THE UPCOMING SEASON.

***16 players will be asked to return to the TPC Valley Course on Thursday, March 14th for a 9 Hole Qualifying round.
                Stroke Play

***First Tee Time is 2:35, then 3 more every 15 minutes. Players may need to get picked up from school that day and go                  directly over to the course to have enough time for warm ups. I've spoken with the 16 players regarding the tee times. I've             asked them to come back tomorrow or Thurs morning to let me know if/when they can be ready to play.
Depending on the outcome I may have more qualifying rounds to be played. We have several returning players and                  many who play on the regional junior tours. Some of the selection process is based on their scores turned in from those                 events.

Players scheduled to play 3/14/2013 are:

SOPHIE MEMBRINO, ELLIE LECKER, SARAH McKEVITT, PETE RICKARD, RAYMOND NAVIS, CARSON KING, FRANSICO ALEMAN, DAVIS LEE, NICK LESESNE, ADAM JEREMIAH, SUNDER PELS, CONNOR McDONOUGH, LOGAN CONWAY,JACK LYTLE, TY LEWIN, ZANDER TWAY

Golf has been adopted by the St Johns Middle School Athletic Association (SJMSAA) this year. Golf county wide, team(s) from every middle school and new "rules & procedures". So, with that said the fee is across the board for every team member. I will be able to do some of the things the way I did in the past but some things are going to be done through the association

The fee for every player/team member this year will be $185.00 per person. Any and all that participated in the tryouts are welcomed to be a part of LMS GOLF. There will be value in the $185.00 fee from lessons, clinics and practice rounds hosted by some of TPC Tour Academy Professionals.

Landrum will field 2 teams this year - An "A" team or Team #1 and a "B" team - Team #2.

Tryouts will be held Monday, March 11th @ 3:00 p.m. ----details below. Please read.
Location: TPC Sawgrass Driving range
Any and all players - boys & girls of all levels (beginners to advanced)- are welcomed. Please go to the SJMSAA website to register for tryouts. Then go see Coach Leapley to give him your name and pick up an information packet.

I want everyone to know that all of us really appreciate the efforts and support that the TPC Sawgrass has shown & done in the past and continues to do for LMS GOLF. From the very beginning the General Manager Mr. Billy Hughes, Head Golf Professional, Mr. Matt Borocz and all their staff have been unbelievable. Please thank any and all, from top to bottom who have helped the LMS GOLF.
Read below for details on tryouts:

The day of tryouts we will have 3 stations set up on the practice range. Upon arrival each player will be given a bag of balls to warm up. Each player that has registered &/or signed up will be given a number to be placed on their shirt or hat. The players trying out will be called up randomly to a station to hit a few balls with whatever club they feel most comfortable. The players will be evaluated based upon different criteria. The following criteria will be used: set up to the ball, grip, ball striking and overall swing/golf skills. Along with me, I have called several golf professional from the area to volunteer their time to help rate & evaluate at the tryouts. We will use a scale from 1-5, 5 being the higher or better rating for all categories. Once each player has had time to hit some balls and be evaluated I will gather all players together to hand out an information sheet explaining the next steps of becoming a member of the LMS GOLF TEAM. I have 4 tee times set up for Thursday, March 14th after school for 16 selected players to go play 9 holes stroke play to help further me with the selection process.

If you are reading this and may be new to the area and want some information to see how things have gone the last few years please read below. There are answers to many of the frquently asked questions in the 'updates' and general info on this website.
Thank you,
Coach Leapley

The season is upon us. Uniforms have been ordered and I'm hoping they will arrive this week. When we play another school in a match each school team plays 8 players in stroke play format. The 5 lowest scores for each team are totalled and the lowest team score wins the match. I want all players & parents to know that it is encouraged for all the team members to make it to the matches regardless if they are one of the 8 players involved in the match.
Our golf "team" concept is unique. Golf is usually looked at and played as an individual sport. I want LMS GOLF team members to come out for each other, to build team comradery and show we all have pride in our team. It also helps to have team members their to share in the victories and be there for support if one is having a rough day.
Parents, it's our/your job to arrange the transportation to & from the matches.

Parents & Players-
Thanks to all who were able to participate in and help out with the Putt A Thon. Please get the funds turned in soon. A few players still haven't turned in their money. The first uniform order is being finalized and submitted this week.
The past two weeks we've had some fun "Ryder Cup" style matches with our Landrum Golfers. This past week the players played in a scramble format. Each player hits, they determine the best shot out of all of them then play the next shot from that spot. Usually means good scores!  All the teams came in under par. Really good! The highlight came on the first hole. It's a 500 yd par 5. On their third shot which was around 109 yds away, Andy Kohn used his pitching wedge to knock it on the green and the ball rolled right into the cup for an EAGLE 3. That helped lead his team to the low round of the day. Nice job.

This Thursday I'd like for the following players to play a qualifying round. Individual stroke play. The first tee time starts at 4:05.

Mason Battreall, Christian Ritondo, Grant Burchette, Evan Trimas, Austin Taylor, Rob Webster, Grant Norris, Cameron Fromme, Ryan Quintal, Will Grattan, Alexander Forsbrand, Andy Kohn, Ryan Udell, Sam Ohno, Kevin Kamis and Alex Wu.
Please let me know if a player CAN NOT play. Thanks.

Our first match is April 10th at Champions Club in Julington Creek.  5:00 first tee time. Player lineup still TBD.
Parents--- please work together for car pooling. It's our responsibility to get the kids to the match and home.

Matches-
Each school plays 8 kids in a match and we count the 5 lowest scores to determine which team wins the match. The 17 players are the Varsity Team or the team that competes with the other schools team. There are other kids who didn't make the cuts who are on the Junior Varsity Team.
Qualifying for matches will be determined on a weekly basis. Some kids are "locked in" to 1 of the 8 spots and some will have to compete.

The Putt A Thon
This is a fundraiser and is open for any/all LMS GOLFERS who want to participate. I intend to have the same format as previous years(s). 10 holes designated at various distances ( 1hole @ 1 foot, 2nd @ 2 feet, 3rd @ 3 feet etc...) with the players taking 10 strokes at each hole. 100 Putts total. I have the "pledge forms" for those who want to pick them up now and start getting pledges.
The PUTT A THON date & time is Wednesday, March 23rd starting at 4:00. This will last approximately 1 hour +/- alittle bit. Bring your putter and 3 golf balls. It will be held on the TPC Dye's Valley practice green.

The shirt, windshirt & hat have been picked out and are ready to get ordered. I intend to put the order in next Wednesday, March 23rd. The cost for the set is $90.00. Please be advised they DO NOT have "YOUTH" sizes. Any youth size order forms that I already have will be bumped up to Adult Small. Please tell me if you'll don't want to order because of the size issue.

Match dates/times/locations are being worked on. We won't start until after spring break. Two schools won't have their teams picked and ready until then.
Excitement is building!!!

There is a World Junior Golf Tournament starting this weekend at TPC Sawgrass. Sat. & Sun. The actual tournament play is Dec. 20-22. Visit the website for more details at WJGS.ORG.

If anyone is interested in volunteering let me know asap. Tom Burnet is the Director of the tournament. He has asked me to see if anyone wants to help with the scoring at the tournament. The kids will sit in a tent at the 18th hole and help input scores, information etc...
I will need names, emails and phone numbers if you're interested. Tom will then contact you regarding times for volunteering.

Official Announcement:

Congratulations to Spencer Slayden & Grayden Kent for qualifying and joining the Landrum Varsity Golf Team.
There will additional members added in the future.

Happy Holidays to Everyone.

I will have more information near Mid January regarding the next Q- Rounds.

Friday, Nov. 19th
We had 35+ kids out at Palm Valley G.C. on Tuesday. It was a good outing despite the wind, rain and yucky weather. Thanks go out to Tom Burnett & his staff from Tom Burnett Golf Academy, along with Mary Lyons from Jax Bch G.C.for her help and of course everyone at PVGC. If you didn't get a chace or didn't see it, there was a nice article in the PV Leader with a couple pictures from our golf clinic the other day. Thanks to Chuck Adams, the local reporter.
Please remember without Bill Hughes- GM TPC Sawgrass, Matt Borocz - Head Pro and all the staff at TPC we would not be able to have such a nice set up for LMS GOLF. Many thanks to them.

The first qualifying round will be played Tuesday, Nov. 23rd. The first tee time is 2:00. Location- TPC Dye's Valley Course. White Tees. The players should all be ready to tee off at 2:00. There will be 4 players in a group. One or two of the boys from last years team will be assigned to a group. They will follow their assigned group to keep score, help with any rulings that come up and help with speed of play. After Thanksgiving I will have another qualifying round for some of those who aren't playing this time around.

Our first phase of tryouts has come and gone. I want all the golfers to know that
NO ONE IS CUT FROM THE PROGRAM. ALL ARE WELCOME.

We had 44 kids out there braving it through some rain as they were evaluated. It's obvious we have varying skill levels at this age. The goal is to keep all players who want to learn the game of golf involved & interested. On Wed., Nov. 10th right after school there will be the second phase of tryouts/evaluations. All are encouraged to attend this clinic. It will be held here on the Landrum Athletic Fields. Golfers are asked to bring an "8" iron. If they don't have one, bring a 7, 9 or a wedge. There will be several PGA Professionals volunteering their time to put the kids thru instructional stations. This will also allow me to introduce a representative from the Palm Valley Golf Course. The Hord Family owns/operates the facility and wants to make arrangements to help out the LMS GOLF PROGRAM. PVGC, along with Mr. Boots Farley, Director of the North Florida Junior Golf Association (NFJGA) are excited about instructing and helping keep as many junior golfers involved in the game. No tee-times are set yet but I will be asking a handful of kids to come out and play a 9 hole qualifying match in the near future. An announcement will be made after that regarding who will be added to the team. I'm going to leave 2-3 openings on the team for a qualifier in the spring. This will allow some time before Spring golf season for some players to work on their game and join our LMS GOLF TEAM.
If anyone has questions/concerns they can contact me here at Landrum on my email.

Friday, Nov. 12th-   LMS GOLF --- UPDATE

I would like to have all golfers come out to Palm Valley Golf Course for a 3rd evaluation/clinic
on Tuesday, Nov. 16th @ 3:00.
Mr. Jack Hord (owner/operator) has graciously given us the golf course for a couple of hours. The intent is to get all of the players out there for some practice and a review of on the course rules/regulations/scoring/etiquette etc....
PVGC is going to offer some special discounts to LMS Golfers whenever they want to visit the facility. Show them their student ID card and receive $1.00 off range balls and $5.00 green fees.
I am currently securing tee times for some 9 hole qualifying play. Dates/Times TBD.

Our home course is the TPC Valley Course. Below are the scores from last years County Championship Match. This should give everyone a good indication of the level of play for us.

Last year was the 2nd year in a row that LMS won the St. Johns County Cup. The following are the 8 scores posted in this match for our team.  38, 38, 39, 41, 42, 42, 44, 46.
Pretty impressive for 11-14 year olds.

LMS GOLF TRYOUTS 2010 -2011
First Day

WHEN:                   ARRIVE @ 3:00  -   THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2010

WHERE:                  TPC SAWGRASS - DRIVING RANGE ONLY

WHAT:                    READ BELOW FOR DETAILS.

The first day of tryouts consists of hitting balls on the driving range. Along with myself their will be several TPC Pros and golf professionals watching and evaluating the grip, swing, ball striking, etc..
Each kid will be assigned and given a number upon arrival. They will then be randomly called over to a designated area to be evaluated individually. The process of determining the team is done is several stages. First on the range then one or more Q - rounds. A list of players will be posted at school who are asked to come back out to play a 9 hole qualifying round. Depending on the number of players will determine how many Q-rounds we will have. We play from the white tees. Dates/times/locations for the Q- rounds will be posted with the names.
