                                Welcome to Mrs. Paton's home page for 6th grade Social Studies!

Please visit this page often as I will try to keep you informed of the activities in the class and also advise you of tests, quizzes, and other information. Information may change on a daily basis, due to unforseen circumstances. That can mean: fire alarms, assemblies, etc. It's not a fancy site but very informative! Check it often, please. I try to update it by Sunday/Monday evening of each week, for the week. Classwork/homework postings are of particular importance! Classwork/homework is to be completed in pencil only (mechanical or #2). Classwork/homework is to be checked in pen only. The pen colors are Blue, Black, Red, or Green. Test dates, daily homework, homework, upcoming projects, assemblies, etc., and other important information can be found here.

****The 4th Quater Packet is due May 18th and is classwork only. If they complete it at home, I will have to give them additional work, so please do not work on it at home. I gave out a packet for 4th quarter that is very large. I gave one to every student and told them to put it in their binder in section 2, that I am not giving duplicates. Several students have already lost their's. They will have to copy someone elses's as I am not giving out duplicates, it is 30 pages front to back. Please do not email me requesting one. I did NOT print duplicates.  Mrs. Paton

I am always open to parent communication, preferably by email. When emailing me please put your child's first and last name in the subject area or it may be deleted as junk mail.  I try to get back to you no more than 24 hours from the time of receipt of your email unless I am not here. Extra Credit Opportunities: Completed, and checked in class, studysheets for tests are worth 10 points extra credit.

Current Events- Due every Friday starting 9/7. If we have school that Friday, they have a current event article due. If we do not have school on Friday, there is no current event article due for thqat week.  See instruction sheet in the first section of the 1/2" binder. See the rubric for this under downloads on this site. Students must use the downloadable form each week (there are always extra copies at the back of the room on the material's table and on my website). Students were given several copies at the beginning of the 1st quarter. The article, with the form stapled to the front, can be turned in from Monday-Friday but it is due Friday of each week at the beginning of class. They must have a printed article to attach to the cover sheet.
Subjects:1st qtr is Local news- Local news is from NE. Florida to SE. Georgia (St Aug./Jax/St. Mary's/Duval County/St. John's County),  2nd qtr is National news- or news from another state (not local news or news from another country),  3rd qtr is International News- news from another country,  4th qtr is student's choice- ***No Sports articles***

Classwork/Homework- *** If classwork is not finished in class it must be finished at home for the next day's warm up check. It may not be listed as homework on this site. I assign very little homework. Most of the work I assign is classwork that can be finished at home. Writing utensils (pencil and Pen) are required everyday!
Needed everyday: book, binder, pencil, red pen, blue pen, writing paper, 1/2" binder, and their planner.

SPECIAL NOTE: Students who are absent are to turn in their work the day they return, no penalty at all, ABSENT must be written on the paper. I want success for your student. Please contact me directly if you have questions or think I need to be made aware of anything. You have wonderful, well behaved children, and I want them to know we are working together. You have done a wonderful job raising your children and I love teaching them! Communication between us is very important! If your child has "issues" with something, please contact me first, so that I have the chance to change the situation. This could be something as easy as a seat change or need for more bathroom time. Start with me, if I have a problem with your child, I will start with you. :-}

***IEP CLARIFICATIONS: Extra time, for me, means they may take their classwork home to finish it. Students have a week or more for current event articles/projects, so extra time is not needed. I always allow extra time for tests/quizzes (they have to be completed the same day) for all students.  If you need more clarification, or I have missed something, please contact me through email.***
